How Does Car Financing Work?

Man and Woman Signing Contract

What does it mean to finance a car? When you’re looking for a car, you can purchase the vehicle outright, finance the car, or lease it depending on the dealership you choose and the options available to you. How does car financing work? We’re here with a quick and easy guide to car financing in Attica and beyond. And at dealerships like Christi Hubler Chevrolet, we offer trade-in options for your current vehicle.

How Does Financing a Car Work?

How car finance works is fairly straightforward. The first thing that drivers looking to buy a car and then finance that car for a certain number of years is applying for a loan from the dealership you buy from, a bank, or a credit union. We offer online financing here at Christi Hubler Chevrolet. When you’re applying for financing, lenders are considering:

  • Your Credit Score (ideally it should be as high as possible for better chances of approval and for better rates)
  • Loan Amount
  • Length of Loan
  • Debt-to-Income Ratio
  • Age of the Vehicle

Think Over Your Options & Choose Your Lender

We recommend applying for a loan with multiple banks, credit unions, etc. within 14 days to get a good number of options and to minimize the temporary impact on your credit score. Your credit score will temporarily have some hard checks on it from these lenders for about two to three years, but these are completely normal.

Choose the loan that’s in your best interests and that you can pay consistently each month. Compare your offers carefully, look at how much you can put down, and if you can pay the monthly payment every month.

Finalize the Loan Terms

Before finalizing, consider negotiating a final price with the dealership for an interest rate that works best for both parties. Once you’ve both come to an agreement, finalize the loan terms and close the deal. You’ll sign all of the necessary paperwork, take delivery of the vehicle, and drive home in your new car.
