If you’ve never heard of the Star City Corvette Club, you’re missing out. The Corvette Club of Lafayette is a non-profit organization that plans events, trips, and activities for friends and families, but that’s not all. You can find out more below, including how to join this helpful and informative organization and some examples of club activities, and how to join.
The Corvette Club has been a vital part of exchanging information, tips on maintenance, and more for Corvette owners since Lafayette was known as the Star City of the West. In a time when people are more connected to the internet than ever, the Star City Corvettes (SCC) remain as an example of how an organization can still provide assistance to its members as a way to share information, to get together over the shared joy of the Corvette, and be part of a larger community helping organization.
The SCC has a business meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m., and their social events are scheduled for the 3rd Wednesday of the month. There are car shows attended year-round, as well as once a year having the Vettes for Vets event at the Veterans Home on the first week of May in West Lafayette. The club also enters into parades near Lafayette, cruise’ ins, car shows near Brownsburg, homecoming events to show off the club’s large collection of Corvettes.
Whether you’re looking for a community of like-minded fans of the Corvette, or you want somewhere that prides itself on exchanging operation, maintenance, restoration, and uses of the Corvette then the Star City Corvette Club is for you.
The Corvette found its first introduction in the GM Motorama in New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel in 1953, and was rolled out of the factory in Flint Michigan a few months later. Since then, it has been upgraded, expanded, and modified to become a status symbol of luxury, comfort, and power. In 1963, the Corvette underwent a complete restyle based on Bill Mitchell’s 1959 Stingray race car, and over the years it had experienced new designs and engineering increases. The seventh generation of Corvettes was introduced in 2013 at the invitation-only reveal in Detroit, and along with it came the return of the Stingray.
Now, the 2021 models are well into production with the eighth generation of Corvettes featuring the C8, which is the first Corvette to have a rear mid-engine configuration and the first GM rear mid-engine production car since 1984.
In order to join the Corvette club, you need to be at least 21 years of age, and the title of the Corvette must be in your name. In addition, if you are or have ever been a member of the National Council of Corvette Clubs, then you may also submit an application. Dues for a new member must be paid after you’ve been accepted as an SCC Member, which is a one-time $10 payment, plus the current cost of an SCC name badge.
Star City Corvettes membership dues are $24 per year, and spouse membership is available for $2 per month, plus an initiation and NCCC payment of $10 per year. If you purchase a new or used Corvette from Christi Hubler Chevrolet, an SCC membership comes standard! So, if you’re near Danville, you can come in to find a new Corvette — and a new extended family!
